Klaus Kreiser studierte in Köln und München, wo er 1972 promoviert wurde und anschließend lehrte. Von 1976 bis 1980 war er Wissenschaftlicher Referent des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts in Istanbul. 1983 habilitierte er sich an der Universität München. Von 1984 bis zu seiner Emeritierung 2005 war er Professor für Türkische Sprache, Geschichte und Kultur an der Universität Bamberg.

Klaus Kreiser (* 1945) held the Chair of Turkish Language, History and Civilization at Bamberg University until 2002. He received a doctoral degree at Munich (1972), where he taught between 1975 and 1977 and between 1981 and 1984. In the years 1977 to 1980 he was as a research fellow affiliated to the German Archeological Institute in Istanbul. He is the author of numerous articles and books on Ottoman and modern Turkish history and civilization. Currently he is working on Foreign Cultur Politics of Turkey, preparing a book on the Ottoman traveler Evliya Chelebi and a volume on public monuments and memorials in the Islamic World.
